How to start

Find a project

Let's go!

Finding the right project to contribute to is your first step. Let's make it simple and guide you on how to navigate OnlyDust to discover a project that aligns with your interests and skills.

When you first sign up on the platform, you will be asked to complete your profile and to select your language skills.

This allows us to be able to recommend projects for you according to what you selected.

You can therefore browse the recommended projects for you by having a look at their project page and exploring their repo(s) and docs.

Exploring Projects

On the other hand, you can explore projects by going to the "Projects" tab on the platform.

Our platform offers a variety of projects, and with our filtering options, you can easily find one that suits you best. You can sort projects by:

  • Popularity (how trending the project is)
  • Community activity (projects with an active community)
  • Newcomer friendliness (projects that regularly onboard newcomers)
  • Reward history (projects that have rewarded contributors significantly)
  • Contribution rewards (projects offering rewards for contributions)
  • Pace (fast-paced projects)
  • Availability of open issues (projects with issues ready to tackle)

We suggest looking at three to four projects initially to get a feel for what excites you.

Diving Deeper
Once a project catches your eye, visit its page to learn more. Here, you'll find:

  • Contact information for project leads
  • Repository links (where you'll be contributing)
  • Instructions on joining their Telegram or Discord for community interaction

We recommend that you reach out to either the project leads or the community to make your first contact. Sharing a bit about yourself helps everyone get familiar and opens the door for collaboration.

Finding open issues
Currently, when you visit a project's page, you will be able to see if they have "good first issues" available. If they do, you will be able to apply directly to one and wait to see if you get assigned.

However, there are times where there are no good open first issues available, but this shouldn't stop you. We recommend:

  • to have a look at the project's repo as they may have other open issues.
  • turn on the notification to get notified when good first issues pop up.
  • Engage with the community is a great way to get tips and find out where you can contribute most effectively. If you find no open issues but are keen on contributing, feel free to suggest one!

Your next steps
Now that you know how to find and select a project on OnlyDust, take the leap. Start contributing to the world of open-source blockchain projects. We're excited to see the contributions you'll make!
