Starknet Grants - June & July 2024

OnlyDust

On a bi-monthly basis, we offer open-source projects on our platform the opportunity to apply for a grant to take their project to the next level!

For those that are new to this concept, or those that need a quick refresher, the goal is to distribute budget received from the Starknet foundation in the most equitable and hassle-free manner possible. We've all seen how complicated applying for grants can be, with numerous documents to read, extensive information to provide, and confusion about the overall process.

We wanted to simplify all of this—from the application, to the voting, to the budget allocation process. And that is what we did, and continue to do.

Bi-Monthly Grant Committee

Every two months, we open a committee where project leads can apply for grants for their projects. A link to apply is sent through our communication channels (and soon on our website), and all that project leads have to do is answer a few questions. However, you must have a project on OnlyDust to apply. Simple and straightforward.

Evaluation Process

Once applications are submitted, a hand-selected jury of 40 top community members evaluates these projects. The voting process is equally simple—just through a link. Projects are distributed randomly to the jury members, ensuring impartiality. A jury member cannot vote for a project they lead or have contributed to - they are automatically excluded from voting via GitHub data.

The evaluation is based on the following criteria:

  • the project's value to the ecosystem
  • its level of innovation
  • its attractiveness
  • its commitment to the ecosystem.

We limit the number of projects to 10 for voting to provide more time for thorough evaluation. We also enrich the evaluation with OnlyDust data, such as the number of contributions a project has made, how many contributors it has onboarded etc.

Projects that have a score of 3 or higher (out of 5) will receive a budget allocation. The funds are managed through OnlyDust, allowing for quick and easy payment to contributors with just one click.

🌟
We are happy to state that our voting rate exceeds 80%!

June/July Applications

This month we have over 40 projects who have applied and we are happy to share the lucky winners! 150K STRK have been distributed for the month of June to the following:

Dojo: 9,786 STRK

Dojo is a toolchain for developing onchain games on Starknet. It implements an Entity Component System heavily inspired by the Bevy engine.

Cairo VM: 8,927 STRK

CairoVM is a newer, faster and safer implementation of the PythonVM, the Cairo language’s virtual machine. It is written in Rust due to its greater performance and its solid safety guarantees both at compile-time and run-time.

Giza: 8,927 STRK

Giza is building the tech stack for integrating trustless Machine Learning into decentralized applications. The Giza Stack is composed of its open-source modular ZKML framework Orion, ML-optimized Web3 Datasets Ecosystem, AI Actions SDK built for integrating ML Workflows in Web3, and Giza Agents for Verifiable AI and smart contract interoperability.

Starknet React: 8,778 STRK

StarkNet React is a collection of React hooks for StarkNet. It is inspired by wagmi, powered by starknet.js.

Garaga: 8,034 STRK

Efficient pairing library using polynomial representation of field elements, written in Cairo.

The Cairo Book: 7,974 STRK

The Cairo Programming Language Book, a comprehensive documentation of the Cairo 1 programming language.

Apibara: 7,885 STRK

Apibara is a framework and protocol to build real-time, composable streams of on-chain and off-chain data. Apibara solves the challenge of streaming blockchain data: blocks are not immutable, their data can be invalidated in response to a chain reorganization.

DeRisk: 7,538 STRK

DeRisk is an open-source, risk monitoring platform that serves as an “early warning” mechanism to detect risky situations (mainly loans going underwater).

Starknet Quest: 7,481 STRK

Starknet Quest help protocols attract and retain users by creating gamified quest experiences on Starknet.

Hyperlane Starknet: 6,784 STRK

This repository is an implementation of the Hyperlane protocol for Starknet app-chains. You can learn more about Hyperlane at https://docs.hyperlane.xyz/

With the hyperlane protocol supporting Starknet, anyone will be able to send arbitrary data messages between solana/evm/fuel.. and Starknet chains.

WASM Cairo: 6,631 STRK

WASM-Cairo is an Infura facility built on Ethereum's second layer, Starknet. WASM-Cairo allows Cairo code to run in a browser serverless and backendless.

ArkProject: 6,249 STRK

ArkProject is an open-source protocol dedicated to build a global infrastructure for the exchange of digital assets, on top of Starknet.

zConqueror: 6,070 STRK

zConqueror is a game inspired by Risk, developed using the Dojo framework.

RealmsWorld: 5,951 STRK

BibliothecaDAO stands as the guardian of an innovative and open-source gaming ecosystem, autonomously operated and rooted in the cutting-edge Starknet.

Nicera Labs: 4,959 STRK

Nicera Labs is redefining the landscape of autonomous art and technology. At our core, we develop open-source libraries that bridge the gap between artistic expression and technological innovation and we develop artistic experimentation using it.

Starknet.dart: 4,910 STRK

The goal of this SDK is to be able to interact with StarkNet smart contracts in a type-safe way.

Paved: 4,496 STRK

Paved pays homage to the classic multiplayer tile laying board game Carcassonne, but onchain and with its own twists.

Starknet gas price browser extension: 4,017 STRK

An open-source browser extension version of Starknet gas price tracker.

You can compile & run Cairo code online. Based on WASM-Cairo.

Underware: 3,741 STRK

Underware is an on-chain game studio of veteran designers, storytellers, builders, and pioneers, at the vanguard of fully on-chain games and autonomous worlds. Our focus is upon building rich, meaningful, and engaging game experiences within open autonomous worlds that coalesce from the living contributions of their participants, owned and governed by their contributors.

Cairo Native: 3,571 STRK

Cairo Native aims to compile Cairo to native object code in order to very quickly (by several orders of magnitude) and cheaply run contract code and determine transaction validity and resource usage by using MLIR, the state-of-the-art in the compiler infrastructure industry.
