ODHack 9.0 💪

— OnlyDust

Ready for the 9th edition?

Join us for 10 days starting October 24th to contribute, collaborate, and earn rewards!

It is a great way to explore projects, ecosystems and to start your open-source journey.

To participate and see the guidelines, register on our ODHack page over here.

Below, you will find projects that are participating this time round.

Super excited to start off this post by introducing BSV Blockchain, an awesome ecosystem that is participating in this ODHack. With unbounded on-chain scaling, the BSV blockchain meets the needs of large scale tech applications.

Their goal is to showcase recent libraries such as TypeScript, Python, GoLang and other network features, to not only to "highlight what developers build, but to showcase why they build it", as Brett Banfe (head of commmunity) details!

Two repos are joining this round:

SVP Browser Wallet

This initiative centres on continuing development for the SPV Wallet Browser. This wallet guarantees robust security and independent fund management, all while maintaining an intuitive user interface and user experience.

The project is looking for contributors to enhance the wallet on the BSV blockchain by expanding upon its reference implementation with new features.

👀
They will be opening a variety of issues and are looking for contributors strong in Typescript and React.

BSV Blockchain Faucet Service

This project aims to provide developers and testers a streamlined, free, and readily accessible mechanism for acquiring digital tokens that will assist with their development of various use cases and for the tokens to power their Web3 applications ensuring a risk-free platform for experimenting and validating blockchain applications.

They are looking for contributors to build an open-source faucet service on the BSV Blockchain that will enable developers to dispense a small amounts of digital tokens specifically for testing, development and to power their Web3 applications.

This service is tailored for non-production environments (such as testnet). The faucet will enable developers to easily obtain complimentary testnet tokens, enabling thorough testing and refinement of their applications and smart contracts before their final deployment onto the mainnet.

💡
Got the following skills? Check them out:

Framework: Next.js/React
Deployment: Vercel
Database: Postgres (Vercel)
API Routes: Next.js (App Router)
Programming Language: TypeScript
Component Library: shadcnCSS
Framework: Tailwind CSS
Icons: Lucide Icons

GO Feature Flag: This awesome project is a versatile, open-source feature flagging solution designed to enhance the flexibility and efficiency of your development process.

By enabling you to modify system behavior without altering the codebase, feature flags decouple deployments from releases, granting your engineering team greater control over feature rollout and A/B testing.

Originally developed in GO, GO Feature Flag has expanded its reach to support a diverse range of programming languages (currently ten). This versatility allows for seamless integration into your existing applications, regardless of their primary language.

💡
The maintainer is looking for contributors who wants to evolve the core functionality of GO Feature Flag (in golang) but also looking for experience contributors in other languages that want to build the providers to GO Feature Flag on those languages. If you are a Rustacean 🦀 or like working on Elixir, this is for you!
👀
Note that this project will not be sending out rewards. It is for contributors that are looking to further develop their skills, be part of a greater project, and if there is enough interest, grants may be given in the future!

On the Starknet side we've got a number of new projects motivated to onboard new contributors as well as a few returning ones! Let's look at the list below:

Go Stark Me is back for a second round! Their project is a Starknet funding platform where you can upload your cause and recollect votes (called "stars") to be able to receive donations.

You can upload early stage projects and also charitable organizations. The community would send STRKs to the contract and once the goal is reached or the cause owners decide it, they can withdraw the amount of STRKs they have collected.

💡
They are opening issues for Cairo contributors.

Starknet Quest

Starknet Quest: They are back for this edition with new issues! They help protocols attract and retain users by creating gamified quest experiences on Starknet. If you want to understand more, we have a detailed blog post by contributor Solène right here.

💡
They are looking for a variety of contributions whether that is back-end of front-end in Rust/React.

AFK-Aligned Farm Kennel is back for a second round! The project is an all-in-one consumer app, with the Social graph of Ethereum & Bitcoin, using Nostr as a SocialFi graph with Starknet to bring the Aligned Fam together.

💡
They will be opening a variety of issues and are looking for contributors strong in Typescript React/React native, Cairo, Solidity & Rust.

Flex Marketplace: Participated in a previous ODHack, they are back with this one! A Dynamic NFT Marketplace on Starknet, built by community for community, they are looking back-end & smart contract contributors.

A Dynamic NFT Marketplace on Starknet, built by community for community, they are looking frontend & smart contract contributors. They just open-sourced their front-end repo!

💡
Cairo & typescript devs, check them out.

Now onto the new projects on Starknet!

First up we've got Peer Protocol: Experience the power of decentralized finance, earn interest and unlock borrowing possibilities across a diverse range of assets and pools on our lightning-fast, cost-effective, and highly scalable peer-to-peer lending protocol.

Key features include:

  • Cross-chain compatibility for diverse asset lending and borrowing
  • User-defined lending terms and conditions
  • Direct marketplace connecting borrowers and lenders
  • Support for a wide variety of coins and tokens
  • Easy-to-use interface for creating and finding lending proposals
💡
For this ODHack they are looking for smart contract development and front-end user interface development. If you are proficient in Cairo, Javascript (back-end) or next.js and responsive design with familiarity in Web3 integration (front-end), this is for you!

Starknet Foundry: First time to participate in an ODHack, they are a blazingly fast toolkit for developing Starknet contracts designed & developed by ex Protostar team from Software Mansion based on native Cairo test runner and Blockifier, written in Rust.

💡
They are looking for strong contributors in Rust and Cairo.

Starknet Phone: This project aims to drastically increase mobile UX by incorporating a light client directly into the OS, and improve privacy by forking GraphenOS, a fork of Android with Google removed.

Types of Issues they are opening up: Android native app development, Cairo accounts, and Mobile Design.

💡
They are looking for contributors in the following skills: Java/Kotlin, Android/Mobile native development, Cairo

Spotnet: This project allows users to leverage their positions on assets (e.g., ETH) by looping through lending protocols (ZkLend) and automated market makers (AMMs). They will be opening issues related to new features, refactoring tasks
and small improvements.

💡
If you have the following skills, contribute to this repo! : Python (starknet_py, FastApi), React, Cairo.

Custos Diretriz: is a decentralized application (dApp) built on the Starknet blockchain that serves two key purposes:

  • Agreements Platform: Custos allows individuals or organizations to create, sign, and store agreements between two parties. The platform ensures that these agreements are secure, tamper-proof, and accessible, making it ideal for legal documents, business contracts, and other formal arrangements.

Crime Recorder: The second key feature is a crime recorder, which allows people to anonymously record videos of crimes or suspicious activities and securely store them on-chain. This feature ensures anonymity and protection for individuals reporting or witnessing crimes.

💡
They are opening issues for mobile app development, smart contract development & Dapp development. Contributors strong in React Native, Cairo, JavaScript/TypeScript, Nexjs, Tailwind CSS are welcome!

ByteBeasts: is a on-chain RPG that merges a dynamic NFT collection with the excitement of mobile gaming. By leveraging Dojo and Unity, they deliver a unique mobile experience that is accessible from anywhere.

💡
Newcomers are welcome! They are looking for Cairo, front-end and Unity developers.

Chaineventts: This project is a ticket management platform built on the Starknet blockchain, empowering users to effortlessly create, manage, and attend events as well as sell tickets.

The platform provides event organizers with tools to oversee events and mint Proof of Attendance NFTs for each attendee at the conclusion of the event.
